450 grams Plain Flour
1 Tsp Bread Soda
1/2 Tsp Salt
300ml Buttermilk
There is nothing quite like a slice of warm Irish Soda Bread with a spread of butter and homemade raspberry jam for breakfast. This is the easiest and quickest bread to make at Heaton’s and it is the perfect breakfast bread.
Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/Gas 4
Sieve the flour and bread soda into a large bowl.
Add the pinch of salt.
With a wooden spoon stir the mixture till the bread soda and salt is equally mixed amongst the flour.
Add the buttermilk and mix till the mixture has formed into a ball shape. (you can add some extra flour if you find the mixture a bit sticky).
Place the dough onto a bread board and sprinkle some more flour on it.
Pad it down using your hands and shape the dough.
With a sharp knife make a cross on the top of the dough.
Bake for 25 to 28 minutes until hollow when tapped.
Remove from the oven and serve warm.
